There is always an invisible mold present that needs to be filled right away, in a corporate environment. Now that you know, go ahead and fill it (before it’s too late) with: “The Professional You”, Position yourself now- for better advancement in your organization and career. Let’s make it fairly simple and downright straightforward. 90% of the corporate world is hiding behind professional positioning. You must have seen numerous professionals, securing positions at leading designations, whereby it would be impossible for you or anyone else to comprehend- who on the face of earth promoted this guy to the post, where he is sitting right now. It’s quite evident that it is all the direct outcome of brilliant positioning. If you take a look at Fortune 500 firms, you will see that all the top people are specifically positioned and well grounded in their roles- contributing to their overall corporate wellbeing. Now positioning yourself- just like any other commodity in the market is quite tricky. It is not absolute logic and thereby, it requires a bit of intuitional judgment, wrapped around street smartness and your ability to discern and decipher a corporate scenario- just like a marketer studies the market place. Usual suspects- demand/supply, target audience, price and competition, will hit the basics. Study them in context of your own profile and you will promote yourself better than anyone else will ever be able to do so. We are not here to preach in a professional congregation of pros and cons but rather to emulate a verifiable way of what exactly ticks and climbs the ladder of success without any ambiguity and sporadic planning. For any product or a brand to be positioned in the market, it has to be, first desired and in demand, before it can reach to its target audience, or even to sell and stay in the market, to begin with. Envision yourself exactly the same way. Now it has nothing to do with the quality or qualification level, of its features and benefits or how costly it might be. It is merely dependent upon the fact that whether it will withstand/qualify the equation of demand and supply confidently, over the period of time, or not. Employers often fear that their latest employee may merely be another trial and error approach to make it or break it for them, and/or even the employee himself. You have to wipe and evade that fear of a wrong decision and instill your confidence right from the headstart with your bosses. Every work environment reciprocates evenly for everyone. While some professionals view it as a way to earn a living, others access it as an extension/window/outlet of their passion and then there is a lot that is always in the “job saving” mode. Let us make it clear for you- anyone on a job is there because his/her skills or expertise were in demand and were desired. Now it is up to you to satisfy this demand and make your audience get addicted to you. Create a sensation and aura of value for yourself. Ensure to carry yourself as an asset for the company and make sure that you add value to increase the profit summary of your employers. If you already do all this- you are in safe waters and sailing in right direction. Corporate mafia is about opportunism. Read the gaps and fill them accordingly with your specialization- that’s it more or less, all about it. Once you start corresponding to the specific needs within a firm and you keep delivering while aligning and adjusting yourself in that particular positioning mode- all’s well and will remain well, as long as you are receptive and reading the game with writing on the wall. Not only corporate world, even in entertainment, sports or politics-survivors are the fittest and not the other way around. In short, it all about owning where you work rather than just taking pride of your expertise. Spend quality time assessing the corporate culture and try fit in it, bringing in your unique brand of skills and experience. Qualifications do matter just to get in- but it is the way you perform with proper positioning that will win you laurels and justify your role as a match winner. Having said all this, the role of grooming, articulate mannerism and accentuated speaking is nevertheless any less important for you to leave your mark in and outside your organization. Headhunters know where you belong and will scout your progress as a key market player in the future.
